Photos: Week 7

Triumph. A boat we borrowed for a couple weeks to explore the islands.

Reef Netting. This is the only part of the world where this practice exists. A net is hung between two boats, and fishermen stand on towers and call when salmon swim over the net.

This Way. I want to know how old this sign is!

Calm Waters. Boating up the west side of Lummi.

Blue Green Blue. A view of the neighboring point taken from the boat.

A Patch of Sun. A tableau down the street from our house.

You Are Here. The Lummi Island map greets people as they exit the ferry.

My New County. Looking up at the ferry captain's window from the car.

Woodpecker Hole. We're afraid bats have moved in to the side of the house!

Full Moon over the Water. Dark, but beautiful.

Dead or Alive? Jellyfish wash up on the beach all the time at low tide.

Foursome. Gypsy napping on her new dog bed.

Countryside. The view driving into town.

Lummi Reservation Pier. Kids playing in the water next to giant piles of crab pots.

Photos Week 5

Our Propane Tank. Chandler says the tank was once white, but it is now rusted a cheery orange, with a green hairpiece in desperate need of a trim.

Owl Spotted. On our first island hike, we realized we were being watched.

Ferns Galore. Even with no recent rain, ferns thrive here.

Pink Somethings. No, I haven't taken up gardening, these popped up unexpectedly!

Mighty Gypsy. She is obsessed with chewing on sticks, even ones twice her size.

Weathervane. So we don't get lost.

Portrait of a Puppy. Kulshan happily posed for me. Gypsy was busy off-camera chewing on a stick.
