Russian River Canoeing

Last Saturday, I went canoeing on the Russian River! Except for a couple tubing experiences (one in North Carolina, one in Laos, of all places), I've never really done the floating down the river thing. The experience was fabulous... the weather was cool and beautiful, the company was charming, the food we brought tasted delicious, and the current tugged us along nicely whenever we felt like not paddling. The only downside: I remembered sunscreen everywhere except my calves. Because of the length of my pants and the angle of the sun, exactly 1/4 of my left calf is burned. I never thought about how much action that part of my leg sees until I realized the pain of getting dressed/being rubbed against by the dogs/taking a shower/kneeling on the floor/walking/sitting down/pretty much any activity while conscious.

But I consider it a small price to pay for a wonderful trip.

P.S. That's me in the foreground sitting on the edge of the boat looking for lunch in our dry bag (see how I toss out that boating terminology like a natural?)!
