Photos: Week 49

Stommish. We attended the annual gathering of Pacific Northwest canoe tribes over the weekend. Here, a ferris wheel turns on the reservation, with the Island in the background.

All Washed Up. A war canoes waits its turn to race.

Hidden Butterfly. One of the participants in the Pow Wow.

Colorful Blur. Dancers compete at the Pow Wow.

Proud as an Eagle. My favorite Pow Wow ensemble.

Crouching Man. Staircase decoration at the hall, where dozens of drumming groups were pounding up a storm.

Guess Where We Are? From left to right: Lummi Nation, USA, Canada, and interestingly, POW MIA below.

Tradition. The moss-tinted roof of the canoe storage shed.

West Coast Canoe. An incredible sight to a once landlocked Kentuckian.
